Join us on Saturday 1st August 2026 for "Bring out the Popcorn", our in-person event all about Gloucestershire's cinema heritage. The event will see talks, a film show and a document display about local cinema history, and of course free refreshments.

What will happen on the day?

  • Film show at 13:15: local footage taken by the Gloucester Film Makers (formerly Gloucester Cine Club) introduced by Mike Morris 
  • Two live talks of the day: one at 13:45 and one at 14:30
  • Document Display of archive records relating to cinema and film
  • Free refreshments, donations welcome
  • Handing out ice creams…or needing an autograph book? Discover your personal heritage with the Gloucestershire Family History Resource Centre, open from 10am. 

Talks and film show of the day

  • 13:15: A film show of local footage taken by the Gloucester Film Makers (formerly Gloucester Cine Club) introduced by Mike Morris 
  • 13:45: Ross Campbell, local author, talks about the history of cinema.  
  • 14:30: "A Life in Cinema…": A talk by Mark Cunningham, owner and manager of the Sherborne Cinema, Gloucester.
